Tutorials: Rules Embed

The rules message is a critical part of any venue's Discord server. It provides the guidelines for behavior and expectations for all members. This tutorial will guide you through creating a rules embed for your venue.

What We'll Create

In this tutorial, we'll create a rules embed for a fictional venue called Lilypad Lounge. This will include a comprehensive list of rules and guidelines for the server and venue.

Copying Permitted

You are welcome to copy the rules provided in this tutorial for your own server! Please ensure that you modify them to fit your venue's specific needs.

The end result will look something like this:

Rules Example

Preparation

To begin, ensure that you have FroggeBot installed in your server.

Creating the Embed

To create a new embed, run the /admin embeds command in a private channel.

Embeds Menu

At the main menu prompt, select the Add Embed button.

You'll first be asked to select whether we want to create a blank embed or a template. We'll choose Blank Embed for this tutorial.

Embed Type

After selecting the type, you'll be presented with the embed menu. Here, you can customize the embed's fields, including the title, description, and color.

The Buttons Change Color!

The embed menu will display a Gray button if there is no data for the field, and Blurple otherwise.

Embed Title

Selecting the Set Title button will prompt you to enter a title for the embed. For our rules embed, we'll use the name __Lilypad Lounge Rules__.

Embed Name

Underlines?

The double underscores are used to ensure that the embed's title is underlined. This is standard Discord markdown and can be used anywhere.

Underlined Title

Embed Description

The Set Description button will prompt you to enter a description for the embed. This is a great place to put a brief description of your venue or some other flavor text. Let's use the following:

Embed Description

Embed Color

The Set Color button will prompt you to enter a color for the embed. This color will be used as the sidebar color for the embed. We recommend using a color that fits your venue's theme. For Lilypad Lounge, we'll use the color #4ABC23 (froggy green).

Custom URL

The Set URL button will prompt you to enter a primary URL for the embed. This will underline the embed's title and make it clickable. This is optional but can be used to link the embed to a specific page or document.

For our rules embed, we'll use the URL https://x.com/HomeHopping (Check it out!) for lack of any proper Carrd page.

Embed URL

Timestamp

The Set Timestamp button will add a timestamp to the embed. This is a great way to show when a message was last updated.

Let's go ahead and add a timestamp for the current date and time.

Embed Header

The Embed Header appears at the top of the embed and can be used to display the name of the venue or the author of the embed.

Selecting the Set Header Text button will prompt you to enter some header text for the embed. We'll use The Lilypad Lounge for this tutorial.

Header Icon

The header icon is an optional field that can be used to display an icon next to the header text. This can be used to add some flair to the embed. Many venues use their logo or a custom icon here.

Click the Set Header Icon button and send the image you want to use as an attachment to the channel. This will set the image as the header icon.

Embed Images

The Embed Images section allows you to add images to the embed. This can be used to display additional information or visual flair. This is typically a great opportunity to display the venue's logo or a gpose of the venue.

Embed Images Menu

For our rules embed, we'll simply add a thumbnail image. This is a small image that will be displayed in the top-right corner of the embed.

Click the Set Thumbnail button and send the image you want to use as an attachment to the channel.

Note

Note that the Remove Thumbnail button is now available if you make want to remove the thumbnail.

Embed Fields

An embed's fields are the most flexible part of the embed. They can be used to display a variety of information in a structured format. For our rules embed, we'll use fields to display the rules themselves.

Adding Fields

To add a new field, click the Add Field button. This will create a new field in the embed that you can customize. Each of our rules will be added as a separate field.

New Blank Field

We'll set the values for each field in the following sections per the rules laid out in the Rules List, which is a good starting point for most venues.

Field Name

Selecting the Set Name button will prompt you to enter a name for the field. For our rules embed, we'll use the rule number and a brief description of the rule as the field name.

Field Name

Field Value

Next, click the Set Value button to enter the rule's description. This is where you'll provide the details of the rule.

Field Value

Now, we'll repeat the process of adding a field, setting the name, and setting the value for each rule in the Rules List.

Once complete, you should have a comprehensive list of rules displayed in the embed.

Rules List

The following rules are a good starting point for most venues. You're free to use these rules in your own server, but we recommend customizing them to fit your venue's specific needs.

1. We are an 18+ establishment

This Discord server, and the associated venue, are 18+ communities.
By participating in and entering our digital spaces you are confirming
that you are over the age of 18. Furthermore, you accept any and all
responsibility for being exposed to adult content.
2. Respect all members

Be civil and respectful toward others. We have a zero tolerance policy
that applies in this matter. Not-tolerated behavior includes, but is not
limited to: trolling, harassment, aggressions, offensive slurs, power trips,
excessive victimization, gaslighting, sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia,
and transmedicalism. Don't make us add to this list.
3. No politics or religious discussions

Keep topics relating to politics and religion in DMs. This is not the place
for such discussions. Additionally, sexual orientation, gender identities,
and transgender rights aren't political or religious debates, they are human
rights. Challenging this will not be tolerated.
4. No gruesome content

No content promoting suicide, self-harm, sadistic gore, animal cruelty,
pedophilia, or rape will be tolerated
5. No pornography allowed

Only FFXIV NSFW gposes will be tolerated. No irl porn, artistic porn,
hentai porn, or 3D porn will be tolerated. The exception to this rule is
Lalafell NSFW. (Althoughm, we acknowledge there are adult Lalafel, and
some people may relate to this race for their irl height or stature.)
6. DMs are a privilege

If someone asks you to stop direct messaging them - stop immediately,
no questions asked. If this behavior continues it will result in an
immediate kick/ban from the Discord.
7. No unrelated advertising

No advertising of any unrelated online profiles allowed (OnlyFans,
external websites, sales pages, etc). Carrds and Twitch are accepted
in appropriate channels.
8. RMT is bad, m'kay?

Do not participate in trading RMT services and other money-making
ventures. Discussion of RMT activities will result in an immediate
kick/ban from the discord.
9. All rights reserved

Moderators reserve the right to remove posts and Mute/Kick/Ban per
discretion and without warning. If you feel you've been treated unfairly,
DM a Manager to resolve the issue. Appeals can be made, but do not
necessarily result in a reinstatement. Furthermore, moderators reserve
the right to change or update these rules as necessary. Your presence
in this Server and Community implies you've read and accept these rules,
including future changes. It is your responsibility to keep informed on
the Community Rules.

(These rules have been adjusted and adapted from the Staff Party Bus Discord server. They are free to use and customize for your own server.)
